COURSE: Introduction to the HIPAA X12 Transactions
As a result of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) under the Administrative Simplification section, standards have been developed as part of a requirement to electronically send data. This class is designed to provide you with a basic understanding of the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) standards that are part of the Transactions and Code Set regulations under HIPAA. This course covers various introductory aspects of the HIPAA X12 Transaction Sets, including how to read the Implementation Guides, basic terminology, the make-up of an individual transaction as well as the use for each HIPAA-related transaction.
Audience
This course is intended for individuals with limited knowledge of HIPAA and the HIPAA X12 Transaction Set standards.

- How to read an X12 Implementation Guide
- Various terms used within the transaction sets
- The use and purpose of each of the required X12 Transaction Sets
- The basic layout of an X12 transaction (loops, segments, elements, etc.)
- The hierarchy of a transaction (Header, Detail and Summary levels) and their main segments
- What an X12 transaction actually looks like
- The Interchange Envelope, Functional Group and Transaction Set

The cost of the Introduction to the HIPAA X12 Transactions training course is $275.00 per student. Students have access to the course for 5 consecutive days. Payment must be made prior to taking the class.

Duration
2-4 hours. The course is divided into topics. Students have the flexibility for stopping and continuing the course at any topic.
