This online training course meets the requirements of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) which requires covered entities to train their employees on their Privacy Policies and Procedures. It is a CD-based compliance-training program that can be accessed anyplace, anytime.

Employees can access the course via a CD or through their organization’s Internet or intranet depending upon how the organization chooses to make it accessible. This format allows for a more efficient, flexible, and fast way to learn about the HIPAA Privacy standards and their organizations specific policies and procedures regarding those standards. This course is designed to address policies and procedures (P&Ps) in accordance with the Privacy rule and your organization's specific P&Ps. It will provide an overview of each of the HIPAA requirements for Privacy P&Ps as well as how each policy and prodedure impacts your staff, managers, and privacy official. The course will provide links to your organization's specific P&Ps and supporting documentation and forms.

This course is intended for those employees who require specific training on their organization’s HIPAA Privacy Policies and Procedures that impact their job function particularly for the staff of Health Plans, Benefit Administrators, Clearinghouses, TPAs and Providers.

• Overview of the HIPAA Privacy regulation.
• An understanding of Policies and Procedures.
• Each standard/topic contains an overview of that standard, impacts to staff, managers, and the Privacy official as well as required documentation and a list of references from the Privacy Rule.
• Each standard/topic contains links to the organizations specific P&Ps and forms and letters for the student to refer to in detail and for reference at a later date.

We recommend that students have a general understanding of the organizational setup of their departments and the responsibilities of the personnel in each department. Additionally, students should have a basic understanding of HIPAA.

This course is not hosted it is available on CD only and a yearly maintenance plan option is available for any course updates that may be necessary if there are any changes in the HIPAA Privacy regulations.

The course length will vary depending upon the job function of the student and the number of topics they will require training on. As a guideline, the course duration will be a minimum of 1 hour to up to 20 hours depending upon the employee’s level of exposure to protected health information.
